A Midwesterner through and through, Denise Howard Long grew up amid the cornstalks and bean plants of central Illinois. A lifelong reader and learner, she believes in the power of stories and that, sooner or later, kindness and goodness will prevail.

Denise is the author of the flash fiction chapbook Spoil the Child (2018, Finishing Line Press) and her fiction has appeared in Pank, Smokelong Quarterly, Pithead Chapel, Evansville Review, and elsewhere. Her stories have been selected for inclusion in Best Small Fictions 2019 and Best Small Fictions 2018. Her work was named runner-up for the Larry Brown Short Story Award, and she’s been granted residencies from Hedgebrook, Kimmel Harding Nelson Center, and Dorland Mountain Arts Colony. Originally from Illinois, Denise currently lives in Nebraska.
